Helmet Size & Fit Guide

Helmet Size & Fit Guide

Getting the right fit is essential for safety and comfort. Follow the steps below to find your perfect size before ordering your custom KONG30 lid.

Step 1: Measure Your Head

You'll need a flexible measuring tape (or a piece of string and a ruler).

  1. Wrap the tape around your head approximately 1 inch (2.5 cm) above your eyebrows and ears — this is the widest part of your head.
  2. Keep it level all the way around.
  3. Note the measurement in both centimeters and inches.
  4. Measure twice to confirm accuracy.

Tip: Have a friend help for a more accurate reading.

Step 2: Find Your Size

Head Circumference (cm) Head Circumference (in) Helmet Size
55 – 56 cm 21.75" – 22" M
57 – 58 cm 22.5" – 22.75" L
59 – 60 cm 23.25" – 23.5" XL
61 – 62 cm 24" – 24.5" 2XL

If your measurement falls between two sizes, we recommend sizing up for comfort, or contact us and we'll help you choose.

Step 3: Confirm a Proper Fit

When trying on your helmet (or when it arrives), check these fit indicators:

  • Snug but not tight: The helmet should sit level on your head without rocking side to side or front to back.
  • Cheek pads: They should touch your cheeks firmly without causing pain — slight pressure is normal for a new helmet and will break in over time.
  • No forehead gap: The front edge should sit about 1 inch above your eyebrows. If you can fit more than two fingers between the rim and your brows, it's too loose.
  • The shake test: Put the helmet on and move your head side to side and up and down. Your skin should move with the helmet — not the helmet sliding on your skin.
  • Retention system: Fasten the chin strap. You should be able to fit no more than two fingers under the strap.

Custom Helmet Fit Tips

Because every KONG30 lid is custom-built, here's what to keep in mind:

  • Share your exact measurement: When placing your order, include your head circumference in the order notes for the most precise fit.
  • Head shape matters: Helmets come in round oval, intermediate oval, and long oval profiles. If you know your head shape, let us know so we can select the best shell.
  • Liner break-in: Custom liners are firm when new and will conform to your head shape over 15–20 hours of wear. Don't size up just because it feels tight at first.
